Grand Bahama Airport Company

Grand Bahama International Airport (GBIA) is a privately owned joint venture between Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) and The Port Group (The Grand Bahama Port Authority). This facility also includes an additional 741 acres of land adjoining the Airport and Harbour into one operating entity, known as the Sea Air Business Center(S/ABC).

The Airport has an 11,000-ft. runway capable of handling the largest aircraft in service and is within easy reach of all major U.S. destinations. Major upgrading and expansion to the facility were completed by March 2004, enhancing the position as a world class airport. The airport operates a 24 hours service daily.

Among the features available at the Grand Bahama International Airport are:

  • Full 24 Hours Weather Service
  • ILS (Instrument Landing System)
  • VOR System
  • PAPI (Position Approach Path Indicator) system
  • Distance Remaining Markers
  • Category seven (7) Fire Fighting Facilities
  • General Aviation services, including fuelling
  • Special Cargo/Freight handling area
  • US Pre-Clearance Facility

Freeport Container Port

Freeport Container Port is a privately owned and operated port of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), the world’s leading port investor, developer and operator with interests in 20 countries throughout Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Americas. Today, HPH operates a total of 242 berths in 41 ports together with a number of transportation related service companies.

Freeport Container Port is located 100 miles from Florida, and is strategically located to serve as a major world container transshipment hub between the Eastern Gulf Coast of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, South America, and trade lanes to European, Mediterranean, the Far East, and Australian destinations.

Freeport Container Port was officially opened in July 1997 and presently comprises a total land area of:

  • 3,400 ft (1,036m of berths) with 15.5m depth alongside.
  • 10 Super Post Panamax Quayside Gantry Cranes
  • 2 Gottwald Mobile Harbour Cranes
  • 50 Straddle Carriers
  • Navis Operating System
  • 49 Hectares/118 acres of Stacking Area
  • 16m / 52ft. in Channel & Turning Basin

Freeport Container Port offers shipping lines a 24-hour facility with the most advanced port computer systems, operational expertise and professional management coupled with State of the Art Security and full surveillance. The port is capable of handling the largest container vessels in the world, and aims to provide excellence in container services through the dedication of our staff and the application of leading-edge technology, by using highly advance ‘real-time’ communication and port management systems.



Freeport Harbour Company

Freeport Harbour Company is privately owned and operated through a joint venture between Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) and The Port Group (The Grand Bahama Port Authority). Freeport Harbour is one of the largest man-made harbours in the world and the deepest harbour in the region. The entrance channel and turning basin are dredged to a depth of 16m (52 ft.). There is also a huge expanse of sheltered waters. Businesses at the harbour include Cruise and Day Ferry visits, Roll-on/Roll-off facilities for containerised and LTL cargo, Car Transshipment, Wet Docking and Ship Repair Facilities. Freeport Harbour can accommodate three (3) cruise ships, five (5) roll-on/roll-off vessels, two 900-ft wet-docking berths. Vessels with a maximum draft of 30ft can be accommodated alongside. Cruise lines of up to 1000 ft., length overall, can be facilitated. Tugboat and pilot services are also available.

The $10.9 million dollar Lucayan Harbour Cruise Facility, situated on the water-ways of Freeport Harbour, continues to develop programmes in order to upgrade the cruise passenger terminal facilities, which processes under 1,000,000 visitors annually. The facility includes:

  • Sheltered staging areas for the pick-up/drop-off of passengers
  • A retail complex and a craft market featuring local straw work and other indigenous craft.
  • Extensive landscaping and a more efficient ground transportation layout are major features of this facility.
  • New tropical landscaping
  • Two first class renovated cruise ship terminals with the ability to be combined to handle a 3,000 passenger homeport cruise vessel.
Freeport Harbour Company is also a major landlord with ship repair facilities and other marine operations within the harbour. A modern ship repair operation is Grand Bahama Shipyard, a quality rated organisation, with two floating dry docks. Dock I, a Panamax sized construction, is capable of lifting vessels of over 30,000 tons and measures 880 feet overall with a clear breadth of 110 feet. The dock is fitted with 2 x 25 ton cranes and a comprehensive range of support services.

Dock II, one of the largest floating dry docks in the Western Hemisphere, is a recent addition to the facility. Arriving at the yard in December 2001, the dock began operations in March 2002. With a lifting capacity of 82,500 tons, an overall length of 985 feet (300m) and an overall breadth of 192 feet (58.5m), it provides the yard with the ability to accommodate cruise ships up to 150,000 GRT and cargo vessels up to VLCC size. This dock is fitted with 2 x 20 ton cranes.

Complimenting the floating docks are two fully serviced wet berths, each of which can accommodate a vessel of up to 1000 feet in length. Also on site is a state-of-the-art 34,000 square foot workshop complex, containing one of the largest lathes in the region and a wide range of machinery which provides opportunities for mechanical solutions and fabrications.
