The Embassy of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Washington, D.C. today announced the activities being held in commemoration of the 35th Anniversary of Independence of The Bahamas.

On Independence Day, Thursday 10 July 2008 a reception will be held at the Hall of the Americas in the headquarters building of the Organization of American States (OAS) from 6:00 p.m – 9:00 p.m.

On Saturday, 12 July 2008 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Grand Bahama Chorale will appear in Concert at The People’s Community Baptist Church, 31 Norwood Road, Sliver Spring, Maryland

On Sunday, 13 July 2008 at 9:30 a.m. A Thanksgiving Service will be held at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 701 Oglethorpe Street, N.W, Washington, D.C. The sermon will be delivered by Reverend Father Curtis Robinson, Rector of St. Jude’s Church in Smiths Point, Grand Bahama.

The celebration of the Independence of The Bahamas began with The Bahamas’ participation in the D.C. Carnival on 28 June, 2008 where the Junkanoo group “The BJAM” won two First prizes: First place Best Small Band of the Year and First place Best Live Band.
