The Hon. Byran Woodside, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister announced today that the Local Government Modification of Provisions Act, 2008 entered into effect on Wednesday, 16th July, 2008.
The Act makes provision for the extension of the terms in office of Committee Members, Councillors or Members of Boards, who were in office in an affected district or town area immediately before the 26th June, 2008 until local government elections are held.
The nine local government districts affected are: West Grand Bahama, Bimini, Hope Town, Mangrove Cay, Central Andros, Exuma, Acklins, Crooked Island & Long Cay, and Mayaguana.
Residents of the named local government districts are advised that the date for local government elections in their districts will be announced on Monday 21st July, 2008.
