The 84 contestants in the Miss Universe pageant have been taking in the sights and scenes of The Bahamas since their arrival, August 2. The finals are to aired live on NBC and Telemundo from the Atlantis Resort, August 23.
Last week contestants and delegates joined management and staff of the National Art Gallery for a viewing of top Bahamian paintings. They also toured Fort Charlotte and were entertained by Flamingos at the Ardastra Zoo.
They paid a courtesy call on the Governor-General, His Excellency Arthur D Hanna who hosted them to tea at the historic Government House grounds. Bahamian historian Dr Gail Saunders gave them an overview of things Bahamian. They lunched at Graycliff Restaurant.
A gala reception was held for the contestants at the Balmoral Club, August 7. While beng entertained by Nita Chipman and Kirkland “KB” Bodie, they joined performers on stage to the sound of Bahamian music. Emcee for the night was radio personality, Chrissie Love.
“The people of The Bahamas are very proud and excited at the opportunity to host some of the most beautiful people on Earth in some of the most beautiful islands on Earth,” said Mr. Vanderpool-Wallace.
Contestants and their entourage spent the weekend in Bimini, Grand Bahama and Exuma. This week, contestants will be taken in a motorcade through New Providence, and participate in a fashion show which will feature the creations of Bahamian designers.
