Coral Harbour Base, 22 Jul. 08 (RBDF) –One Bahamian and a Haitian national were apprehended on Monday afternoon by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for illegal fishing in the Northern Bahamas.

While on routine patrol off West End Grand Bahama, the Defence Force patrol craft under the command of Petty Officer Freddy Rolle came upon a 15-ft open hull fishing vessel. Onboard were the occupants, who had approximately 300 lbs of assorted scaled fish. They were not in possession of the necessary documents needed for commercial fishing, and were subsequently taken into custody. The vessel and its crew were taken into West End, where they were turned over to the relevant authorities.

Persons engaged in commercial fishing are advised to have the necessary documents needed.
