Swim safely with sharks, play with the dolphins, explore a sunken pirate ship from centuries past, rediscover a secret underwater cave, or voyage across a deep blue hole.
The water is a crystal clear emerald blue. It’s that clear, in part, because of the coral reefs that line the seven hundred islands of the Bahamas. The reefs do an excellent job of breaking the waves, which today are barely existent.
With waters approaching near 200-foot visibility, and spectacular coral built over millions of years, the Bahamas is a diver’s dream.
There are no rivers in the Bahamas in part because the Islands of the Bahamas are made entirely of calcium carbonate, which is mainly produced or precipitated by the organisms of coral reefs — this also contributes to the Bahamas having the clearest waters in the world with visibility of over 200 feet (61 meters). In fact, 5% of the world’s coral can be found in the waters of The Bahamas and the Bahamas has the world’s third longest barrier reef
If you never dived before, no problem. Almost every island has friendly professionals who can safely lead you through your first, or hundredth diving experience.
